Fall is in the air and with a fleece on your back and a hot mug of coffee in hand, the drift boat slides off the bank and into the black waters. You make your first casts as the sun is just peeking over the turning leaves on the east bank. “Keep your rod down and keep the fly moving” you repeat over and over in your head. You lose focus for just a second, as a grouse drums on the far bank, and that’s when it happens… A vicious attack on the clump of fur and feather knotted to the end of your line. Everything you had been taught goes out the window as you rear back on the rod. Gills flare and two big head-shakes later, the calm returns. Quiet falls on the river and all appears serene. You look down and your hands are trembling. You’d swear that your boat partner could hear your heartbeat, but he’s focused on the next cast. The fish is gone and a lesson has been learned… And that’s how the addiction begins.
Join Tight Lines this fall on one of the premier musky rivers in the country. Our full-day floats include use of gear, flies, instruction, lunches and beverages. Expect to cast flies anywhere from 5 to 10 inches long on nine and ten-weight rods. Some experience fly casting is recommended, but not entirely necessary. This is the best time of the year to chase these apex predators, but the window is small so contact us soon!
