It’s no secret. We love the Menominee River and so do thousands of others that have experienced it with Tight Lines. To the extreme dismay of many, the river is currently under the threat of an 8 acre 750 foot deep open pit sulfide mine. That’s right……a giant hole in the ground containing toxic heavy metals and sulfuric acid a mere hundred feet from the bank. The implications of water contamination related to the mine would be absolutely devastating to the Menominee and surrounding land, air, and waters.
American Rivers recently listed the Menominee among the top ten most endangered rivers in the United States. It’s high time that those of us who love the Menominee or just wild rivers and wild places take a stand in opposition of the Back 40 mine.
