April Inland Report: We could not have possibly had better trout fishing weather this winter and early spring. The generally mild temps have lent to some great opportunities in Central WI and in the Driftless Area. Central- The streamer fishing has been ranging from good to excellent on any given day. Try darker patterns on overcast days and something yellow or white when the sun is out. Don’t be afraid to go big if you’re looking for a larger fish. Help us save the Menominee River!

Aquila Resources Inc., a Canadian mining company, wants to develop a metallic sulfide mine on Michigan’s shoreline of the Menominee River. The edge of the open pit/underground mine would be within 100 feet of the river. This poses numerous risks to the river, Lake Michigan, and the surrounding environment. I’m working with Kathleen Heideman at the Upper Peninsula Environment Coalition (UPEC) (www.upenvironment.org) and Ron Henriksen of the Front 40 Group (www.menomineeriver.com) to raise funds to pay for a technical review of the mining company’s Wetland Permit application.
